Hot Air Balloon 9-8-2013
Spending a crisp late-summer morning at a park surrounded by floating balloons never gets old. Watching them gain altitude and disperse smoothly across the open valley provides great layers of depth. I waited until the lead balloon dominated the frame while keeping two companion balloons clearly visible in the background.
The focal point is the large “Firefly” balloon sporting bold zig-zag chevron bands in warm gold, crimson, and olive green. Clean directional light gives the vertical ribbed segments tangible volume and form. Two smaller balloons drift in the distance against an expansive blue sky, adding balance and depth across wide monitors.
