Hot Air Balloon 9-14-2013

Capturing the preparation of a hot air balloon during cold inflation offers a mesmerizing glimpse into its construction. Positioned outside the mouth of the envelope as high-powered fans pump air into the chamber, I zoomed directly down the interior corridor toward the crown ring at the apex.

The photo reveals an eye-catching kaleidoscope of geometric nylon panels radiating outwards in all directions. A circular rainbow mandala sits at the top vent, surrounded by deep blue and purple starburst points that cut into golden-yellow outer sections. Natural ambient light filtering through the thin material produces a brilliant, graphic desktop wallpaper.
