Long exposure photo of Bash Bish Falls surrounded by snow, ice-covered cliffs, and an emerald pool in winter

Bash Bish Falls 1-22-2013

Hiking into Bash Bish Falls during the heart of winter in the southern Berkshires showed a completely transformed landscape. With the summer crowds long gone, the steep rocky gorge stood quiet, blanketed under fresh white snow with massive ice formations clinging along the jagged granite cliff faces.

I set up close to the edge of the plunge pool to catch the rushing waterfall cutting straight through sheets of thick ice. A long exposure smoothed out the cascading water into silky white ribbons, perfectly setting off the deep emerald green of the cold water basin and the frosted boulders framing the foreground.
