Mourning Dove & Babies 9-5-2026

In our front yard stands a Double-Flowering Japanese Cherry Blossom that has become a reliable sanctuary. For the second time in three years, a mourning dove decided to build her nest nestled securely among the sturdy branches. Stepping outside on a quiet August afternoon, I noticed subtle movement deep in the canopy. Looking closely, I spotted two small chicks tucked safely under their mother, resting quietly in the shelter of the bark and foliage.

The photograph captures the mother bird watching attentively over her nest, framed by the textured, lichen-covered cherry tree branches. Soft, dappled sunlight filters through the green leaves in the background, creating a bright and natural backdrop that highlights the soft brown and gray tones of her feathers. Nestled right beneath her chest, the dark down and curious eyes of the two chicks add a quiet depth to the frame. The balanced composition keeps the focus centered on the family while preserving the natural texture and peaceful atmosphere of the summer afternoon.
