Lazy Lion 9-3-2014
Rounding the bend on the Kilimanjaro Safaris trail at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, I caught this big male lion taking full advantage of an afternoon snooze. Getting a clear view of an apex predator completely relaxed in open daylight made pausing my camera on this rock ledge well worthwhile.
The photograph shows the lion resting peacefully flat along a large, sunlit sandstone boulder, his head cushioned against the stone with eyes shut tight. Patches of fresh green grass rim the edge of the rocky outcropping, while dense tropical greenery blurs in the background to emphasize the thick tawny mane and relaxed facial profile.
