Scottish Highland Bull 12-15-2017
I captured this shot several years ago during a visit to Action Wildlife in Goshen, Connecticut. The park offers open pasture spaces where exotic and heritage livestock can roam, making it a great local spot for close-range animal portraiture. Standing near the fence line, this impressive Scottish Highland bull moved directly into view, completely unfazed by the camera. His thick, shaggy coat and massive curved horns gave him a commanding, timeless presence that immediately made him the standout subject of the afternoon.
The composition frames the bull in a tight, asymmetrical profile, drawing immediate focus to his dense reddish-brown hair and heavy horn structure. Soft, even natural daylight illuminates the rich textures of his coat without harsh glare or heavy shadows. The vibrant green grass on the left provides a bright contrast to his warm, earthy tones, while the blurred background keeps the full emphasis on his calm facial expression and long sweeping horns.
