Yellow Orange Red flower 8-18-2014
This strawflower caught my attention right away while exploring garden plantings in mid-August. The layered structure and papery bracts made it one of the most distinctive blooms I had come across all season. Framing the flower dead-center allowed me to lean into its natural symmetry and show off the transitions in color.
The macro shot highlights pointed petals shifting from fiery red tips into warm orange and vivid yellow bases. At the center sits a dense, textured golden dome of disk florets, captured with crisp definition under soft diffused light. Lush green garden foliage gently falls off behind the flower, giving the fiery colors plenty of room to pop.
