Wild Daisy 6-11-2014
Early summer brings out wild fleabane along every meadow and overgrown hedgerow in Connecticut. I stopped by a sunlit clearing in mid-June and isolated this single stalk reaching up from the brush. A shallow depth of field helped isolate the delicate blossom, wiping out the distracting tangled stems in the background.
The photograph focuses on a pair of opening daisy flowers crowned with thin, lavender-tinted white ray florets and bright golden centers. Unopened round buds and slender green stems curve gracefully around the main bloom, creating clean diagonal movement through the frame. The solid, out-of-focus emerald green backdrop makes the fine petal fringing stand out clearly.
