Zebra 7-25-2013
I took this shot at Action Wildlife in Goshen, Connecticut, while watching the outdoor animal paddocks on a bright summer afternoon. The zebra paused close to the fence line, looking across the open field and offering a clean profile view. Converting the capture to black and white felt like the natural choice to emphasize the bold stripe geometry.
The monochrome portrait captures the zebra’s side profile, from its alert upright mane down across the bridge of its muzzle. Natural directional sunlight sculpts the distinct alternating black and white bands across its neck and face, while the grassy outdoor background softens into a quiet, textured grey field that keeps all focus on the animal.
