Southford Falls State Park 8-7-2012
Focusing on smaller details often yields much more interesting photos than chasing entire landscape panoramas. Stepping close to the old stone dam wall at Southford Falls State Park, I noticed dozens of tiny natural springs weeping through the stacked granite blocks. A lone purple loosestrife blossom grew stubbornly out of the pool right beneath the wet rock wall.
The shot isolates the dark, glistening stonework covered in vibrant patches of neon-green moss. Slender threads of silky water trickle down the vertical stone cracks into the dark pool below, smoothed out by a gentle shutter drag. The single purple flower adds a punch of organic color against the heavy, charcoal-toned masonry.
