Great Falls 1-31-2013
Hiking out along the rocky ledges below Great Falls in Falls Village on a freezing January day, I wanted to capture the entire expanse of the falls and the powerhouse above in a single frame. Mounting an ultra-wide 8mm fisheye lens let me take in the sweeping curve of the riverbed and the textured sky without cutting off the scale of the gorge.
The perspective curves the wide sandstone shelves as water rushes across tiered drops toward the bottom right. A light dusting of snow hugs the bare winter woods on the ridge, balanced by soft rippled clouds across a crisp blue winter sky.
