Topsmead State Forest 8-8-2014
Summer in Litchfield brings dense greenery to Topsmead, surrounding the historic English Tudor cottage with vibrant perennial flower beds. Walking the brick pathways around the residence, I stepped back into the lawn to capture the full character of the architecture against the gardens. The textured stonework and steep slate rooflines always give the building a distinctive presence on the hilltop.
The composition layers wide, leafy green hostas in the foreground beneath the stone facade, multipane casement windows, and ivy-covered walls of the cottage. Terracotta planters packed with colorful blooms sit atop low stone walls, while soft overcast light keeps the tones balanced across the lawn, stonework, and surrounding trees.
